Places to eat in Sheffield

Updated: Jul 30, 2023

Attention all foodies! If you're looking for a midweek dining experience that's full of flavour and fun, Sheffield is the place to be. This buzzing city is packed with fantastic restaurants, each with its own unique vibe and menu to explore. Here are my top 5 picks for the best places to eat in Sheffield midweek.

1. Slap & Pickle Burgers at The Dark Horse Bar

First up, we have The Dark Horse Bar in Sheffield, guests are treated to a truly unique dining experience thanks to the delicious offerings of Slap and Pickle. The atmosphere is vibrant and lively, with entertainment and good company to accompany your meal. Slap and Pickle's burgers and loaded fries are unlike anything you've tasted before, featuring 40-day dry-aged Swaledale beef smash burgers and succulent plant-powered patties. Whether you're a meat lover, vegetarian, or vegan, Slap and Pickle has menu items that cater to all tastes. Each item is carefully prepared with equal care and attention, ensuring that every guest receives a meal of exceptional quality.

2. Craft & Dough

A hip and trendy spot that specializes in pizza and craft beer. Their sourdough pizzas are the real deal, with chewy, bubbly crusts and toppings that range from classic to creative. My personal favorite is the Spicy Nduja, which packs a punch with spicy sausage, roasted peppers, and chili flakes. Pair it with one of their local craft beers, like the Abbeydale Moonshine, for a truly satisfying meal.

3. Ashoka

If you're in the mood for something spicy, Ashoka is the place to be. This authentic Indian restaurant has been serving up delicious curries and tandoori dishes for over 30 years, and their reputation is well-deserved. My go-to is the lamb Rogan Josh, which is slow-cooked in a rich tomato sauce and packed with flavour. And of course, no Indian meal is complete without some garlic naan and a mango lassi on the side.

4. Saigon 68

Craving Vietnamese cuisine? Saigon 68 has got you covered. Their menu is full of fresh, aromatic dishes that will transport your taste buds to Southeast Asia. Try their pho - a fragrant beef noodle soup that's served with a plate of herbs, sprouts, and lime wedges for you to customise to your liking. And if you're feeling adventurous, their salt and pepper squid is a must-try.

5. Proove Pizza

Last but certainly not least, we have Proove Pizza - another pizza spot that's been making waves on Ecclesall Road. What sets Proove apart is their use of a wood-fired oven, which gives their pizzas a smoky flavour and perfectly crispy crust. You can't go wrong with their classic margherita, but if you're feeling adventurous, their calabrese with spicy salami and goat's cheese is a crowd-pleaser.
